First meet with TomTom NavCore 7TomTom chose the Cannes exhibition for the presentation of two new GO models, and a new version of their PND software. The GO 520 and 720 will ship next month, with NavCore version 7 installed. Finally another larger, new software release, with new functionality and expansions of existing features.

MapShare
The most important novelty is TomTom MapShare. With this innovative technology, the user can make his own adjustments to the digital map on his PND. Changes in the driving directions, (temporary) road blocks or changes in the street names can be done by the motorist from now on, and the adjustments can be shared amongst all the users of the new software. As well as from MapShare, TomTom also developed new features with regards to safety and personalisation.

At first, only the owners of the new GO 520 or 720 will be able to use version 7 of the software. It’s expected that after the summer, users of other TomTom systems will also be able to take advantage of the NavCore 7 features. Depending on the hardware they use, TomTom users will be able to install the extra features onto their PND for free. In any case, TomTom MapShare will be usable on every TomTom PND, right up to the Classic and the ONE XL!

Taster
At this moment, we have no GO 520 or 720 review unit in our possession, but we are working on that! Still, there are a few things about NavCore version 7 we can already show you, because today we have received a number of screen dumps of this new software. At first, we wanted to make a selection, but decided against that. No, we thought: "why not let our users see all of them". And so here they are: 119 first looks of TomTom's new software. Enjoy!

My first priority wish now is to be a beta tester for Navcore 7.
But it seems to be no chance for that.

The Navcore 7 looks very fine, Map Share is the product I have hoped for for a long time no.

oldbwl Now that is a upgrade I would be prepared to buy a new device for, some really good changes, a bit more revolutionary than evolution than usual and at last.

DrPepper wow , lots of new features :statusbar horizontal/vertical, automatic zooming on/off. They could also do some new voices for navigating ...Im totally bored with this Finnish male voice and female voice is so bad that it cant be used, Tomtom devices got always mention about this comparison tests....I have asked this also from tomtom support but no new voices has been made...

"So record your own"
and if you can't stand the sound of your own voice, then there is the ability to send your voice file to each other via tomtom.
We could start a "voice bank" that we could upload our own / created voices to, to share with others. What do you think?
Hopefully the tomtom saves then in the same format as pre-existing voice files.

DrPepper yep, that new recording feature maybe will courage people to make own voices. Dont wanna my own voice for navigatin (thou I have speedcamera oggs with own voice) Would that recording need some microphone that tomtom one doesnt have? and lets hope the format is same old one. Anyway I have always wondered how Tomtom original Finnish female voice is so bad, it sounds like some foreigner speaking it. I sent mail to tomtom support request about new voices about half an year ago, but nothing has appeared. They could sell those new voices....Ill bet there could be quite many buyers.

DrPepper,
the microphone will be the same as the internal one used for hands free, which I think is supposed to have been improved. The quality of the recording won't be as good as the professional ones, but I would think that as long as you find a nice quite place, and don't have the microphone too close to you when you speak, then the quality should be at least as good as that of the ones people have done themselves on the computer. For some reason people think that the closer you hold the mic to your mouth the better the recording will be, this isn't true.

"yep but old tomtom one doesnt have handsfree..."
But you could still download a voice file made by someone else. You said in a post before that you didn't want to use your own voice anyway. Tomtom can't stop people sharing voice files of their own voices.
I'm sure that once the new go's are out, then there will be at least some people that post them somewhere. Would be good to get ones with more regional accents instead of just the box standard english ones. For example: Scottish, Welsh, Geordie, Scouse etc.

Andy_P The inbuilt voice record feature is a nice addition, but we've always been able to record our own navigation voice files.
The best description of the process I've seen is on Graeme Lucas' Website

That's true, but creating the audio files, converting them to the correct type of file and packaging them correctly took a bit of work. I'm not saying that the new feature is better, the sound quality might not be as good, but for convenience and speed this is a better way especially for new users.
Ideally someone would write a piece of software that mimicked Tomtom's approach, but on the computer so that people could take advantage of better microphones and recording software. If Tomtom also developed this software for the pc then people who own the older models without the mics could also take advantage of it. Maybe a third party developer will try it?

Draca I really love Tomtom.

they've really fixed everything i wanted them to do.

maybe now it's time to buy the next model to support tomtom in their continued development...
the 520 looks damn nice because it's flat and not a budget version like the ONE.

plus the tought of a li-po battery is exciting.. at last!!

Navcore 7 has already been released for the ONE XL and now the ONE v2, so it sems they are working backwards through the models. There ARE a few bits missing though (custom cursors, disable auto zoom etc.)

But in castrated form. We still don't know how badly castrated for Classics, but if it's any more castrated than on the One, I will have to ask "is it worth it?", especially if it breaks third party stuff.

janonline4ff Mike,
First off all in your next post try unlocking the caps-lock, it looks less screamy.

The Navcore 7 is distibuted by TomTom through Home. So you'll just have to wait till it is offered to you through Home.
They started with the newest devices (OneXL, One 3rd edition) and will continue top down, till eventually your TomTom Clasic will be served.
How long this will take depends, as far as I understand, for a great deal on how many problems they encouter in the new Navcore version on the old devices.

So be patient, it will all come to you in due time

Andy_P Welcome, Amicos! clapping.gif

This topic is quite old now, though...
Latest models have been using the newer v8 software for a few months now, and it is in the process of being made available for others (it keeps being offered and then withdrawn again!)

There are plenty of details about v8 around the site, here are some that might interest you:
