Hi,
IS it possible to install the application (Navcore) for a Go930 on a SD card? If yes, how can we do that? If this is already documented somewhere, could you please let me know where? I tried to search and found nothing... thanks |

Yes it is.
On the x20, x30 and x40 models you can share stuff across the internal memory and the SD card, but there are a few limitations. Depends what you want to do and why..... If you want to move everything onto a card for more space, just copy everything onto the card using Windows Explorer and the TT will boot from the card first if it sees a valid set of system files on it. You can use the same instructions for making a backup in our "How to..." section and just restore the backup onto the card instead. If you want to "dual boot" and have a different software version on the internal and the card, you can do that too, but it is best to have separate maps on the internal and SD card as well, otherwise you can have issues with the incompatible MapSettings.cfg file constantly being overwritten every time you switch versions. |

Hi Andy_P
Thanks for your answer. If I would like to keep the current application on the internal memory and install another version on the SD card...How can I do that with TTHOME? Thanks |

Don't even think about trying to do it with TT Home!
Use the instructions HERE for downloading, extracting and installing software manually. |

Hi andy^_P
Again thanks for your help... If it is possible to have two different application version (one on the internal memory and another on on the SD card). I assume we could swap between application version without any negative impact on the TomTom. I mean, if we swap between an earlier and a newer version it does not cause any problem with the unit (except the problem that could happen with the mapsetting file) ...Is that mean the TomTom is always refreshed when we do a boot and if we boot with a newer version and then with an older version ..the execution of the newer version won't have any impact on the execution of the older version? |

I've got dual boot on my 720.
I wanted to keep the FM transmitter bit and my games. Ok mainly my games!! I have the latest version and maps on the SD and the older version with my games and working FM Transmitter on the main unit. So all you need to remember is to have the all of the firmware files and maps on your SD and your main unit. The GO will boot from the SD first, so if you want to switch to your alternative system you need to remove the SD card. -------------------- Steve

I *did* have dual booting on mine as well (for the same embarrassing reason too!
But I only had it running for a few days before my internal memory decided to die terminally, so I'm running on the SD card alone now. |

Hi Andy_P
Why you internal memory died? Is it the risk of swapping between two different application version ...back and forth...? Also, do you know if I install any application version on the internal memory and after if I do a reformat of the memory and I re-instal another previous version...is it a clean way? Does the reformat clean every trace of the previous application and re-installing a previous version won't suffer because before I installed a different application? Thanks |

My Internal memory died... simple as that... Over two or three days it became unstable, you could write a file to it and all would seem OK, but when you disconnected from the PC it wasn't there. Eventually formatting would fail and finally Windows wouldn't recognise it at all. It's not uncommon for this sort of memory apparently, not a TomTom-specific problem.
I'm 99.9% certain that a re-format will leave absolutely no trace of a previous software version. However, software updates sometimes replace the "bootloader" programme and I've no idea if that affects anything else. |
