Hi was wondering if someone could put me out of my misery with this one
Just bought a Sony bluetooth stereo and thought that in theory I would be able to play the audio from my TomTom through the stereo via bluetooth. I thought it would be as simple as selecting the bluetooth speaker option from within tomtom and the two devices pairing However the TomTom unit does not appear to be able to see the bluetooth stereo even after trying the hifix method in the sticky Has anyone had success with such a process or is it even possible ? My stereo even offers the option of audio streaming (A2DP) but again this fails Any help much appreciated Cheers Fred |

I've got a Sony BT radio..... MEX- BT2600, and that works with the TT720 and 940 beautifully.
At first it needed the BT Fix file mentioned, but since the last couple of software updates for the TT it hasn't needed it. If the 2600 works, I'd be surprised if the 3600 doesn't. All I can suggest, you might have done already... You need to put the Sony into BT "search" mode, by pressing the BT button for 5 seconds to turn Bluetooth OFF, and then press and hold it again for another 5 seconds to turn it ON and into search mode (an icon on the display should flash). Then got to the Speaker preferences on the Go, set it to BT output and it should pair (it calls the Sony "Xplod" - which I thought was a retired copper, but there you go...). When it asks for a passcode, I just leave it on the default setting and tap OK. |

Cheers Andy,
The BT search mode on the Sony may be the problem I simply can't get the icon to flash it's either permanently on or off - if I power down for 5 seconds and then hold down again for 5 secs then I get a solid icon rather than the flashing one I'll have a further play but at least in theory it should work Fred |

According to the BT3600U manual the pairing process is exactly the same as the BT2600.
I can't copy the relevant bit from the .pdf of the manual, but its on page 15 HERE. It doesn't mention what I found though - that you have to press and hold to turn BT off first and then press and hold again as if you were turning it on... so the BT symbol must NOT be on the screen when you do it. |

Thanks for you help with this Andy
Looks like the problem is with the Sony Head unit rather than TomTom - it simply won't go into pair mode - the flashing bluetooth logo will not appear, it's either fully on or fully off I've tried to pair my Nokia N70 and again I can't get the unit to drop into pairing mode even after a reset Looks like it's back to Halfords for a replacement unit Cheers Fred |

If you get to Halfords and they tell you its not possible to stream audio from a TomTom using Bluetooth assure them that it does work and that they are wrong - I have had this issue in more than one store! - Mike

Hi A newbie to the forum I am looking at ideally fitting a new sony head unit with the pretence that if i pair the unit to my tomtom 520, then it will interupt the, say radio on the head unit, and give me voice directions. Am i correct in thinking the sony will do this? Thanks |

No, not at all.
On this Sony, all you can do is is manually switch between Radio / CD / Bluetooth Audio / iPod adapter / External Line in etc. (It may do some clever switching if you pair your mobile phone to it direct but I've never tried that). Also, there's nothing on the TomTom to signal when it is about to make an announcement (very old Go models had a "mute" output on the multiway socket thet could be used for a car radio, but it was dropped a long time ago). Maybe there is some way to do it using a parrot system as you mention in your other posts, but I've no experience of those at all. I had a brief look on their website and it looks like they may be inserted in the actual loudspeaker outputs of the radio, meaning ANY radio will mute and be replaced with the Parrot's output, so if you can get the TT to pair with the Parrot, it *might* do what you want. Pure guesswork on my part though.... |
